Making Claims In Your Marketing
-
You’ve heard them all before. Some companies say they’re the best this or the highest quality that. Some companies use marketing claims to say they’re the best price or the proven choice among moms. Whatever claim you want to make for your small business, make sure you can back it up.A well-known cereal maker is being investigated for its claim that it’s cereal “Now helps support your child’s IMMUNITY.” It’s no surprise the claim would say this given all the talk about the H1N1 Virus (otherwise known as Swine Flu). Now there’s a very real chance the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will investigate the claim. Naturally, the cereal maker stands by its claim. But some claims are blatantly not believable by many even if there are values to substantiate the claim.
As a small business owner or entrepreneur it’s important for you to distinguish yourself from the competition. Making a claim may be the best way to go about this and win over new customers. However, depending on exactly what claim you’re making on your Web site, product packaging or other marketing materials, you’ve always got to be prepared to back it up.
