#smbiz Chat Working With Print Reporters
-
Working with a reporter or writer can be an intimidating experience for any entrepreneur or small business professional. There are a lot of misconceptions involved, and obtaining media coverage for a small business can come with many misunderstandings of the media’s role in pursuing a story. It’s important to have access to information and resources that can help answer questions.First and foremost, the media’s role is not to provide a promotion or advertisement of any business. Instead, the media’s purpose is to bring interesting, newsworthy and compelling stories to its readers. However, in accomplishing this a small business owner can receive wonderful exposure when a reporter decides to include his/her company in the story. If a story is compelling enough and truly unique, it is possible to get a profile story written, though.
A large question then remains: What is the best way for an entrepreneur or small business owner to work with a reporter to obtain good media exposure? And with so many other entrepreneurs and small business owners also trying to work with reporters, how can you cut through the clutter and have your story noticed by a reporter or writer?
We’ll find answers to these questions and more in the #smbiz Twitter chat on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009. Join #smbiz from 8-9 pm ET that evening as we ask our panel of media experts a series of questions that will help entrepreneurs get more media exposure for their companies.
